So here's what I was cooking up in the kitchen with the letters.
Our ceilings are about 25 feet high so I have a lot of room to work with. The kitchen just felt like it needed something to take up some of the space. In Hobby Lobby's craft area you can buy these giant wooden letter cut outs. That sure made my job easier. I painted them Red, Green, and a Black-Brown and found none of those colors popped against the logs. I guess after three paintings I was ready to stick with a color. Cornbread yellow is what they are now, with a little dark wax around the edges to dirty them up.
Had my smart hubby hang them, I had no idea how to make them all the same height. He had no problem getting the job done.
Here's another change I made. I like my Salt and Pepper handy. I cook dinner every night for my family and still bake from scratch. When a recipe calls for S&P I like to get a good dose of it, and this seems to be the best way. Just reach in and get a pinch.
I love that the bowls have a pattern inside and outside.
I also have this enamel ware pot next to my stove and it holds my oils, vinegars, and my morning maple syrup. I don't like things cluttering up my counter tops so this is the easiest way to keep them gathered in one place and also have them handy at the same time.
Thanks to all who played along in the guessing game. Two of you were smart cookies and guessed the word right away.

ReplyDeleteLOVE those letters Dawn.In the end you chose the right color. I have that same enamel pot. What a good idea.
ReplyDeleteThe letters add to your kitchen, but I love the idea of using an enamelware pot to hold all the bottles next to the stove! Those bowls you are using for salt and pepper are delightful.

Love those letters!! Especially since I like to bake;) great idea!
ReplyDeleteI know cornbread yellow is one of your favorites and it's perfect for this project, love it! Also like how you hung the letters rather than just leaning them against the cabinet/wall. Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend , it's gonna be warm.
ReplyDeleteI love this yellow color...it's perfect. Your little s & p bowls are so cute. I have my grandmother's salt bowl. At some point it must have been broken because there's a crack that's been glued. Just adds to the charm! Beautiful day here...hope you have the same.
ReplyDeleteDawn, they look fantastic up there. I have to clutter my kitchen cabinets, as they are so small and there isn't any other surface space to speak of.
ReplyDeleteBrenda

Your kitchen is lovely. Love those green chairs. And it certainly looks like you wound up with the best color for BAKE. Loosk great! Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I am so jealous of your tall ceilings! Our kitchen has rather high ceilings but the rest of the house? Low - it's an old farmhouse. And my husband is 6'4" - yikes. But back to your letters - that was a brilliant idea, Dawn. They look so wonderfully graphic against your wood walls. Love them.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in this week!

You certainly have an awesome kitchen!~
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen! It's very cozy... I have my salt in a sugar bowl, so it's easy to reach as well... Except mine has a lid, because living on the sea side, the humidity tends to "stay" in the salt!
